ABOUT THE CLIENT
Lipetsk Industrial Special Economic Zone is a part of the national project for economic development and its priority sectors stimulation. More than 60 Russian and foreign companies implement their investment projects there. On the site of Lipetsk SEZ distribution networks of electricity, heat, gas, water, wastewater and telecommunications are being built and operated. They provide plots of land with prepared infrastructure for the construction of production facilities.
GOAL
Innovatively demonstrate to potential investors spare sites with prepared infrastructure. Visually display the location of utilities while providing maintenance and land works on site.

SOLUTION

We developed an augmented reality application for a tablet, which with the help of an external GPS sensor displays the location of underground utilities with a standard error of 1 cm at a distance of 1 km from the base.

How it works

On the tablet screen the user sees the location of gas, heat and water supply networks, household sewerage, storm and industrial sewers, communication and power cables in augmented reality. The GNSS antenna on the bracket connects to the EFT RS1 GNSS base station receiver, which tracks satellite data on 220 channels. The sensor receives a signal about the exact location of the device and the program builds an underground utilities scheme around the user. As a matter of convenience, the application interface contains detailed information about the types of underground utilities, description and characteristics of objects, as well as the ability to scale and rotate the map. In addition to the AR-mode, there is also a 2D mode that determines the coordinates of objects with high accuracy and shows the general scheme of the underground infrastructure. If necessary, a fragment of the utilities’ layout can be exported to a PC for detailed data processing, coordination and refine.

OUTCOME

The application in an original way demonstrates the capabilities of site allocated for the construction of industrial facilities. The solution also allows civil engineers to abandon the calculation of the coordinates of underground utilities in the drawings and save time not searching for hatches and access panels under the snow and in winter. It minimizes the possibility of inaccurate excavation during repair work.
